MAXLIGHT BOOST 27.5 WHEELS

New wider (40mm external) rim works well with larger volume plus tyres.

These mountain bike wheels are the perfect partner to our Maxlight PHASE frameset.

Switching to wider rims can dramatically increase the volume of a given tyre.
Which Increases the distance between the bead seats and has the additional benefit of flattening out the tyre’s sidewalls giving the tyre more support and helping it to resist rolling or squirming at low pressures.
lower pressures can often be used which leads to better traction, control and comfort.

Tubeless compatibility on all new Maxlight wheels (we recommend: tubeless kits from Effetto)

Thru axles increase stiffness. Boost 148mm (rear) and Boost 110mm (front).

32 Hole drillings and 3 x Lacing. Robust build for UK Riding.

Double-butted spokes: These Kinesis Maxlight Boost wheels have lightweight spokes that are thinner in the middle (e.g. going from 2mm to 1.8mm and back to 2mm again) to save weight and reduce ride stiffness, without compromising on wheel strength.

Alloy nipples reduce weight at the crucial point of the wheel to help acceleration.

10/11spd Shimano compatible.

Why a new standard? Boost 148mm (rear) and Boost 110mm (front).
The New Kinesis Boost Hubs move the flanges outwards. By doing this spoke angles increase, creating a more stable base.
Boost standards maintain the ratio of spoke length to bracing angle seen in 26” wheels resulting in, 26” stiffness from a 27.5 or 29” wheel.

What Mountain Bike - issue 195 (January 2017)

Once taped and sealed it’s a reasonable all round performer at a reasonable price…
We’ve not managed to dent the rim so far, though, despite some significant rock slams during testing.
The 32 double-butted spokes give it a forgiving rather than feisty handling feel, but that means surefooted cornering connection
and a noticeable amount of impact damping/conformity that works particularly well on hard tails.
Ten-degree maximum engagement lag and a low weight mean it accelerates well for a plus wheel too.
