Aithein vs the UK's Hardest Sportive

‘Kinesis Morvelo Project’ KMP team rider, Matt Brown recently completed the extremely tough ‘Fred Whitton’ riding his Racelight Aithein, set up all lean and mean and running 1×10 gearing.

“The pic was at around 42 miles. I’d ridden almost all the way round the 112 miles on my own. I think I averaged over 20mph for the first 40 miles – that’s not bad going for riding in the lakes. But I’d been pushing too hard and bonked just after Whinlatter Pass (60 miles)

You can start any time between 6am and 8am on the fred whitton so I was actually just catching all of the slower guys… I started at 7am after looking at the weather.

After riding 100 miles, there’re not many times that you’d be happy enough to ride back up Hardknot and Wrynose pass just to do the descent again. There was no other option than locking up the back wheel and getting sideways. Soooo much fun.

A stiff aluminium race machine that’s low and long has just proven it can be ridden all day over the UK’s hardest sportive. No sore back or behind.
