Good News about Road Disc Brakes

News we've been looking forward to about road disc brakes

We saw the potential benefits that road disc brakes could make for some of our bikes as soon as they were first announced. Improved braking in all weathers fits perfectly with our four seasons bikes.

However we felt they were a little bulky compared to the clean lines we were hoping for.

Rumours surfaced of smaller more compact units coming to market for the 2016 model year and we got much more excited. Sure enough those rumours, turned into pre-release information on the now announced flat mount disc brakes.

We’ve been working away on a number of new models that will be flat mount ready because they bring a lot cleaner packaging, smaller sizes, less weight and lines that are much more in the style we felt would fit best with a road bike.

However, Kinesis bikes have almost always been about versatility and flexibility both in the different weather conditions we design them for but also in the choices we like to give our customers in how they can choose to build up their bikes.

We appreciate that for as often as someone builds up a Kinesis with completely new parts, there is another one where someone’s moving components off a bike they already own to build up a new Kinesis for training, commuting or sportive riding (sometimes racing too!)

With that in mind, we’re deliberately engineering our new models to come to fit flat mount disc brakes, post mount disc brakes and in some cases caliper brakes as well.

We hope that this approach will give you maximum flexibility in terms of being able to buy one of our framesets, build it up with the parts you have now, even if they are caliper brakes, knowing that when you’re ready, you can switch to discs without having to buy a new frameset (although that’s fine with us too!)

We think that flat mount disc brakes are an important moment in the ongoing development of our range and we’re hard at work finalising a range of new models for the 2016 model year.

As we’re able to, we’ll share more information.

Oh and one more thing, we’re also working hard to make many more of our bikes both Di2 and mechanical groupset compatible.

We hope you’ll be as pleased as we expect to be when these bikes begin arriving into the UK in the next few months.
