A TOUGH NEW FORK FOR 700c FREESTYLE - posted on 23rd July - 15:57pm

Over at our DECADE brand, we have spent some time developing a tough fork for 700c Freestyle. Using knowledge aquired from many years of designing Dirt Jump products for our other in-house brand DMR Bikes.

The 'TRUTH' fork has some pretty advanced features, including full Cro. Mo. construction, fluted steerer and triple butted fork blades.

And of course some sick graphics by Adi at 99seconds!

Reaction to the new look Racelight KR810 has been excellent! This frame has clean lines and a classic look to it coupled with hi tec features. It makes an absolutely fantastic sportive or race bike with it's comfortable ride qualities and position.

The new graphic treatment looks really nice and compliments the look of modern componentry.

It's a little late, but now it's here the latest KR-810 frame looks absolutely superb in it's new subtle metallic Black finish with the latest graphics to match the rest of the new range.

With our increasingly potholed roads, more and more riders are finding that a Cyclocross bike makes an ideal commuter. The Crosslight frames and forks are the ideal basis, because you can start from the ground up and put together a build that is perfectly suited to the job in hand.

Of course, some conditions are TOO extreme even for the Crosslight and sometimes you just have to admit defeat, lean the bike against the fence and admire the view!

NEW KMP RIDERS OWN THE PODIUM AT MUCOFF8 - posted on 14th April - 11:01am

The Mucoff8 was the first race for the riders of our new 'Kinesis Morvelo Project'. The sun had been out, there was DUST and it promised to be a fun first outing. But then Wind, Cold and Bogs threw a spanner in the works.

Sven from Denmark sent me this picture of his new Racelight T2 build. It's always great to see how riders build up the frames [the joy of being mostly a 'frameset only' brand], but this one really caught my eye.

It's built up for touring/commuting, rather than Winter duties and has a really nice look to it with the Silver rims and Black guards + skinwall tyres. Almost retro and 'Cruiser' like.

I have finished designing the NEW XCPro3 and it will be in the UK in March. This TOTALLY NEW XC race frame replaces the well loved XCPro2 and has completely new geometry and 'SPF' tubeset. The Med. size weighs only 1520g.

The XCPro3 is a bit more race specific than the Pro2 with longer front centre's on the 3 new sizes. The geometry matches our advanced new, full carbon Maxlight KM810.

Paddy from our Sales dept. has just built himself up this very tasty KM-810! It's one of our pre-production prototypes and his has been testing it at our secret South Downs testing facility.

The bike is a very healthy 20lbs and there's more to lose, with a new crankset and lighter shifters planned soon...

Jenn Hopkins rode it..."a fun ride that simply made us smile every time - and you can't ask much more of a bike than that".

"...laced together with tidy tig welds, then wrapped in quite the loveliest paint job we've seen this year".

"I originally intended to ride 'cross with this frame but I've ended up using it for my daily commute. My morning ride takes me through a smooth forest trail, over a rough field and then a couple of fast miles on road, the crosslight is perfect for this ride!

I did a long on/off road loop last year including the milder of the Mach3 routes in Machyncllth, and the non-MTB paths on Nant-y-Arian (before moving to Oxford I would ride with the Ystwyth Cycle Club).

I've also taken it on an amazing tour of the German and Swiss alps. Mostly road but was glad of its off road abilities for forest trails and rougher mountain paths. I've attached a couple of photos the tour. I said I'd do this a long time ago when I first bought the frame!"

The first of our 2010 model CROSSLIGHT frames came in today! This season see's a big change in the look of the frames, with new graphics and colours + some tubing changes and modifications to details.

I am super pleased with the way the new frames are looking. The 'FiveT' is the first frame to come in [replacing the 4t], take a look at it here and here.

The 'EVO4' will be in soon [replacing the EVO3].

A little known fact is that Keith Flint [Prodigy legend] is a keen rider and that his chosen brand is non other than Kinesis!

A while back, Keith built himself up a rather nice XCPro2, pictured here and here. This is his favourite MTB and he can't get enough of it!

He was back on the blower last week and has ordered himsef up a Racelight KR-810 with a host of exotic components, including Reynolds DV46UL wheels and Oval Concepts finishing kit.

He's going to have a couple of NICE bikes! I'll post some pics as soon as it's built up.

We have just built up a KM-210 frame for testing by the cycling press and websites. The bike looks very nice and weighs just over 23lbs! Pretty good as we didn't go all out for a lightweight build.

Team KuK - Kinesis have had a great start to the season with five podium places so far including four wins and a 3rd place finish by Matt Kipling at the Eddie Soens. Kipling added a win the following week at the Chapter Road Race while the mighty Steve Lampier won a 50km Handicap RR and the 130km race at Essex the following day. Rounding out the wins was Alex Bhogal taking the Lake of Menteith APR in Scotland.

The Tour of Pendle was a tough one this year!

Very changeable conditions with blustery wind, torrential rain, terrible visibility and greasy roads really made this already hard race a real challenge.

As usual our Kinesis UK riders helped shape the race, with Kit Gilham really driving things in the early stages.

GRANFONDO SCANDIUM DECALS - posted on 21st August - 11:44am

Some of our new 'Granfondo' frames have come through with a crooked 'Easton Scandium' decal on the seat tube. Now, this won't affect performance, but it dosen't look very nice!!

This decal is on top of the lacquer, so it's easy to replace.

We have built a GranFondo frameset up our ideal Sportive build and shipped it off to roadcyclinguk.com for test.

The GranFondo has been 3 years in development, drawing on our experience of nearly 10 years of UK frame design, and represents our view of the ultimate alloy tubed frameset.

The preview has just come up and it sounds like they are impressed! Actually, I was quite blown away by how good the bike looks!!

Full review should be up soon, after they have clocked up some miles.

Kinesis MTB Team at Mayhem! - posted on 1st July - 9:58am

The Kinesis Mountainbike Team put in a great performance at last weekend's Mountain Mayhem event to finish a very creditable 7th. Conditions were pretty horrific through the night but Sunday morning brought warm sunshine and a lovely fast dry track, even if the wind meant the riders had to dodge flying tents! The team were all riding their Kinesis XC Pro2 Frame and using a vast range of the Geax tyres in the changing conditions. Big thanks to the Kinesis riders Paul Hudson, Roy Hunt, Chris Andrews and Alex Kinvig who put in a huge effort in less than perfect conditions. Thanks to the organisers and we're already looking forward to next year.

Git Kilham and 3 other riders jumped clear after 4 miles of a 86 mile stage.
Kit taking the first 3 mountain top primes and 2nd on the last, gaving them the jersey on the road.

This is from the Chas Messenger race report on bcf, the words are from John Herety, of the Rapha/Recycling team about the younger riders on their team;

"In fact, as they’re not punching above their weight, they are not really maximising what they can do at the moment...........It’s the second year of being with us now and they have to start producing those sort of rides. You only have too look at what Kinesis are doing. They are punching above their weight and riding very well as a unit and that’s not what we are doing. We need to pull the individuals in our team together a little bit better.”

The recent news story that I ran about Scarletts hill-climbing RC2 got me thinking about that difficult to describe feeling that you get from building your own bike.

Making your own Go-kart, skateboard or anything that moves has that magical feeling!

Taking a box of inanimate parts, some new, some well used and trusted, and then tinkering until you come up with a whole new creation that feels familiar but is totally different to ride is a great thing to do!

OK, granted, you get a great feeling from riding a nice new Pinarello, Specialized or Trek, but nothing can beat the feeling of riding something that you have created yourself. No one has got a bike quite like yours.

It's hard to describe it, but if you've ever put together your own bike, then you'll know what I mean.

So, buy that sparkly new Kinesis frame and get them tools out.......

I have just heard that our newest frame/fork, the 'Granfondo' is almost ready and will be shipped this month.

This fantastic Easton Scandium frame has been 3 years in development and I believe it is totally unique.

It is directly aimed at the Sportive rider, Scandium has a 'steel like' feel and works really well for the longer distance event.

The [rather small] pic. shows a photoshop representation of the frameset, but I will put a proper pic. + detail shots up on the site as soon as it is available.

Granfondo will be available from all Kinesis dealers and will be £699 for frame/fork/h.set/Selcof carbon post.

KINESIS UK 2008 TEAM LAUNCH - posted on 10th March - 10:36am

Last Friday saw the the 2008 lauch of the Kinesis UK race team with the help of Langs Bistro in Southport for the event. Now in its fifth year, Manager Chris Truett and Designer Dom Mason have assembled a young and ambitous squad who hope to rival the big three British teams, Rapha-recycling, Pinarello and PCA in this year's Premier Calendar series. As well as this the team will also be targeting some larger foreign events such as the RAS in Ireland and the BC superweek in Canada.

Although the squad has been increased and stregthened the team has still tried to keep to its aim of nurturing young talent as five out of the six riders are still in the u23 ranks.

For 2008 Kinesis UK will rely on the generous sponsorship not only from Kinesis UK but also Reynolds, SRAM, High 5, Fizik, Oval, Cratoni and Chieba.

The full line up is: James Sampson, Matt Cronshaw, Kit Gilham, Josh James, Tom Last, Jack Pullar.

Our entry level, Crosslight 4t Bike was tested back to back against the full carbon Ridley 'X-Fire' and stood up very well! In fact many readers would question if it is really worth shelling out the extra £650 for the carbon Ridley.

"Kinesis has managed to create not only a great performing and focused 'cross bike in the 4t, but has also developed it's attributes so that it singles out no particular purpose, making it an excellent choice for the do-everything winter bike"

Both bikes scored a respectable 8/10, but we think the Crosslight deserves a 9, considering it's price tag, handling and great adaptability. It only weighs 500g more than the Ridley too!!

Our Winter bikes based on the ever popular Racelight T and Racelight Tk frames were very well received last season, so this season we have totally revised the spec. making them even better value and up totally to date.

The build kits now have 10speed Shimano 105 shifting, with external bearing Truvativ crank and a fully revised set of components.

The bikes look and perform great and Cycling Plus will be testing the New '08 Tk soon, so watch out for that.

2007 National Junior Men's Road Race Championship - Kinesis Team rider takes Silver! - posted on 20th August - 14:11pm

Kinesis UK team rider Johnny McEvoy has taken Silver following this very tough race in nasty conditions after staying off the front in a breakaway group of 4 riders for most of the race.

"I'm not disappointed with second place; I picked the right break into the head wind and attacked at the bottom of the climb. It would have suited me if the race had been a bit longer. In the finish straight I looked round to check the chasers, Peter Kennaugh kicked and I struggled a bit but Peter deserved to win the race".

This rider had some brake judder on a new Crosslight bike [eventually cured by correct toeing in].

I don't usually put e.mails like this up on the site, but as this one seems to describe exactly the reason why I believe Kinesis UK is a success, I thought I would stick it on the news page for all to see....

"Dom,

Thanks again for the offer of help – you don’t get this level of service from the big faceless multi-national corporations and it’s much appreciated. I’d certainly recommend buying kinesis to anyone. I took the bike back to the local shop just to give them the opportunity to put things right before I started tinkering with it (I prefer to do my own maintenance). They toed in the blocks and this seems to have cured the judder. Apparently they had already fitted the Tektro hanger which does look pretty sturdy.

As for the crosslight – it’s spot on. I’m probably not using it for the purpose it was intended, a 26 mile round trip commute, but it’s fast and light and very comfortable. Where my road bike is super light and flighty, much like a thoroughbred race horse and my full susser is slow and heavy just like a carthorse, the crosslight is more like a hunter, fast, strong, comfy and looks good to boot. I’m really pleased with it - you might be able to tell. Again all credit goes to the designer for producing a cracking frame and fork.

Johnny McEvoy, one of our Kinesis UK team, is in Belgium with the GB junior squad and they recently won the very hard 'Axel Junior Tour'. Overall the GB team took the general classification, sprint and points jersey and also the team prize in one of the hardest Junior stage races in the world!

Johnny reports that his Racelight KR-810 performed very well on lots of Pave and some of the worst roads in Belgium! [the pic. shows him off the front and on the attack].

STOLEN KR-810 BIKE RECOVERED! - posted on 21st May - 15:59pm

Well, sometimes things just work out.

Within hours of spotting some of the missing bikes parts on Ebay, we had got enough information to pass onto the police.

Here's some words from Chris Truett. our team manager; "Kinesis UK are pleased to announce that a person has been arrested in connection with the stolen team bike last weekend in York, and the person is helping York Police with their enquires. The full bike was recovered all in bits ready for sale. Great result.

I as manager of Kinesis, would like to thank all the people who have sent me emails and made phones calls to me over the past week, and would like to thank the British Cycling Website for their part in advertising our article, which in turn has helped to secure an arrest".

With this new world of easy and fast access to information, it's harder to hide than the criminals out there think!

Well, thanks to whoever broke into our team van at the weekend and stole our team managers KR 810 race bike.

This bike will be difficult to sell as they are still quite rare in the UK. It has red Racelight graphics has full 07 DuraAce groupset + Oval Concepts bars, stem and post. The wheels are rare too, Reynolds 'MV36' Carbon with Vittoria tubulars. The frame measures 54cm centre to top.

Our Maxlight XC has become a bit of a classic and has always been amazing value. It's been around for about 5 years now and has changed very little, this year it will be replaced by the [cleverly named] 'XC2'.

This year I have tweaked the design a little to keep it up to date. The geom remains the same but we have added the new forged dropouts developed for the XC>120 and the graphics have been bought into line with the rest of the frame range.

It's still great value at £249.

We are incredibly proud to say that our Kinesis UK team has won this years P&O 'Tour of the North'. This is a particularly prestigious and arduous race and the oppostion is fierce!

The team performed superbly under team manager Chris Truetts slick control and pulled back after crashes and injury to take the event overall, a truly amazing effort!

Here at Kinesis UK we have a policy of continued development and updating for all our products. The latest frame to benefit from this policy is the XCPro2 frame.

The frame now has newly developed forged and CNC machined dropouts, they are a little lighter and better looking than the original and keep this excellent frame bang up to date!

We have just built this stunning bike using our new KR-810 frame and forks [better pic. here]. We have added some top notch components including our new Reynolds KOM carbon wheelset with Vittoria Diamante ProLight tubs, New OVAL carbon stem, OVAL R950 carbon bars, TRP carbon brakes and DuraAce everything else.

The finished bike weighs in at just over 14lbs! [14.7 to be precise] This is no mean feat considering that this is almost our largset size! [54cm, equivalent to 58cm 'conventional' sizing].

We will be showing our KR-810 off at this weekends Core Bike show, so expect to see some press coverage soon. 'Cycling Plus' have also got it booked in for an exclusive test, so look out for that too.

Mick Ives, 5 times UCI World Masters Cross Champion and 56 times British Cycling Champion, has chosen to ride Crosslight EVO3 frames and forks this season.

Since 1990 Mick has won a British Champion title every year and achieved a world championship six times over (2000, 2001 and twice in 2004, 2005 and 2006) and is the first man in the UK to represent their country in four individual disciplines: Road, Cyclo-Cross, Mountain Biking and Track. Mick, aged 66, is now in his 50th racing season. He has been competing, non -stop through the summer and winter months since 1956, winning British Championships every year he has raced, which is something no other cyclist has achieved.

To mark the launch of our new carbon monocoque race frame, we will be releasing 20 'Launch Edition' frame and fork sets. These very special framesets will have Titanium colour graphics [instead of Red] and will be numbered 1 to 20. Once the 20, numbered, sets are gone...they are GONE, so get one ordered now!

roadcyclinguk.com tested an RC2 frame and Attack fork that we had built up with Ultegra recently, and I guess you could say thay liked it!

RCUK VERDICT: If you're bored with your current frame and need to inject some zest into your riding, the mind-bogglingly cheap and great quality RC2 is the perfect upgrade. It doesn't lack in features, and delivers a ride that doesn't at all reflect the low price tag. Buy the RC2 with confidence and the knowledge it's one of the fastest kids on the street.

Some of you may have read in WMB? Oct. 06 in the EuroBike review section P.26 "We heard that Kinesis, a major manufacturer of mid and high level frames is closing it's facility in Taiwan...."

Well I can tell you that this comment is ABSOLUTELY INCORRECT, we think this comment was based on the fact that Kinesis USA [who have never concentrated on frame manufacture] have shut down their frame facility to concentrate on forks.

In fact Kinesis produced about ONE MILLION, ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND frames last year!! Not a small amount, so please don't worry, we are sticking around!!

No one from Future Publications actually thought about calling us before publishing the story!! Unbelievable!

Anyway, they will be publishing a retraction and putting something on their website....thanks Future.

Here's a review of our new KR-810 carbon road frame/forks, that we showed here for the first time, it caused quite a stir, and will be ready before Christmas.

I have just returned from the 'Eurobike' show in Germany, where we finalised the details on an exciting new full carbon frame and fork that we have been developing in collaboration with 'Kinesis International'.

The Racelight KR-810 is an advanced and distinctive monocoque design that has taken over 2 years to develop and test. We have chosen this route because we were not content to simply buy a 'carbon clone' frame 'off the shelf' and rush it onto the market. The geometry has been tested by our team riders and refined until we now have what I believe to be one of the finest and most advanced carbon road frames available.

It will be available early in '07.

Not content with updating our Crosslight frame range, the forks have undergone some work too!

The 'ProCarbon' has revised blade profiles and new 'Aero section' dropouts and the 'Crosslight3' now has a disc mount/canti bosses option. The 'EVO' is so good that we have left it alone!

All the new carbon 'cross forks have new graphics to match our '07 frames.

Our Kinesis team performed superbly at the Mountain Mayhem event last weekend coming 8th out of about 500 teams!! The team are riding our new Maxlight XCPro2 and reported that it felt super fast and responsive in the dry conditions, just the tool to carry you through 24hrs. of pedalling!!

Many of you came and visited our stand, had a chat about the new frames and took away a new catalogue, good to see you.......and see you again next year!

Check p.113 of the latest [July '06] edition of What Mountain Bike? and you will see that the Maxlight pha5e has fared very well indeed against the superbikes of the Hardtail kingdom, some costing twice as much!

The new Maxlight XC>120 production prototype frame arrived in the office today and is looking very nice indeed! This great new frame is designed along the same lines as the classic Easton tubed Maxlight XC, but has been totally updated to work with the newest 100-120mm adjustable travel suspension forks. Tubing is Hydroformed Kinesium up front, with a Kinesis Superlight back end...all very trick!

A more detailed description and pictures of the raw frame [so you can see what is under the paint of our frames...just beautiful welds and no filler on these babies!] are in the Maxlight frames section on the site. "Here at Torico we are also big fans of road riding and a customer approached us to build a lightweight road bike under 17lbs in weight, slightly different to all the Treks out there with a normal non-compact frame with a retail price of under £2500- not easy, but doable all the same. Well we achieved it with sensible speccing of Dura ace and Ultegra components on a Kinesis Racelight KiC2 frame (£499). Take a look at the base of the products menu bar and you will see a 'RSS' [Really Simple Syndication] button, this allows you to set up your computer to automatically receive news from the Kinesis UK site as soon as it is added!

RSS also allows you to see when other sites from all over the internet have added new content. The XCPro2 looks like it is set to be the same success as the classic XC and old XCPro. Our first and second shipments sold out almost straight away, so apologies if you have one on order and are waiting for it to arrive! The next batch is now ready and if you have one on back order, it will be flown in to the UK, so I expect the frames in the UK for the first week of April.

NEW SITE - posted on 24th April - 10:37am

At last! The new Kinesis UK site is almost finished!! It has taken rather longer than I had hoped, but I think it was worth the wait.......thanks for your patience.

I hope you will find the new site much more informative, the main change is the detail pics. for colours and close-ups of frames, bikes and forks. Our frames are very well detailed and welded and the old site really didn't show this, in fact many people would call after buying a frame and say "I didn't realise just how good the frame was until I got it home!" So now you can easily check all the details on each frame and bike [and soon forks] to see just how good they really are!

The new site will be much more regularly reviewed and kept up to date......there are many exciting products in the pipeline and they will appear here first.

The 'Readers Bikes' section will also be making a comeback, so you can send in your Kinesis bike build for all to see. It's a great way to see what the frames/forks look like built up before you buy yours.
