Hydroforming.
‘Hydroforming’ is an advanced forming process used
to produce the sculpted tube shapes for frames such as the Racelight
KiC, Maxlight XC Pro and the new Maxlight PureMovement.
The unformed tube is placed inside a specially machined former
and hydraulic fluid is forced in under very high pressure, forming
the tube shape very accurately.
Unlike other manufacturers, who use hydroforming for purely visual
effect, our Hydroformed tube shapes are designed to increase the
effective strength of the frame by distributing stresses over a
broad section of the tubes, instead of allowing them to be concentrated
in small areas. The shapes also give a large area at crucial points
like the BB and headtube, allowing maximum weld contact, stiffness
and strength where it’s needed most.
The Hydroformed gussets and multi-section tube shapes are achieved
with virtually no weight penalty, as would be the case with traditional
weld-on gussets.
